A full cable system on the water at Lundbyvassen, accessible to beginners, progression-focused for experienced riders, and built to host championship-level events.
An open waterfront bar for everyone. Sun, drinks, food and a view across the Göta river. Gothenburg's answer to Strandbar Mitte in Berlin.
Step off the cable and onto your houseboat. Grill on the deck, watch the evening session, fall asleep to the sound of water. Overnight stays unlike anything else in Gothenburg.
Open air cinema, concerts on the pier, space for the free theater scene. The historic cranes as natural stage elements. A full waterfront destination, not just a sports facility.
Built to Last
These cranes shaped Gothenburg for generations. GötÄlva plans to give them a new chapter.
Lundbyvassen After Dark
The site has a different mood at night. So will GötÄlva.
Unexpected Lundbyvassen
The pier has its own character. We plan to keep it that way.
The Site
Lundbyvassen has been quiet since 2015. That is about to change.
The Journey Starts Here
One pier. One idea. A lot of work ahead.
Cities across Europe are rediscovering their waterfronts. Oslo, Copenhagen and Hamburg, once industrial and closed off, are now among the most vibrant and visited parts of their cities.
Lundbyvassen is not a problem to be solved, it is an opportunity waiting to be taken.
GötÄlva is an initiative launched in 2022 with a simple but powerful goal: to bring life, movement, and creativity back to one of Gothenburg’s long‑unused waterfront areas.
For more than a decade, this part of Lundbyvassen has stood still — a quiet pier, an empty stretch of water, and an industrial landscape waiting for new purpose. Now, the ambition is to transform it into an open, active, and inclusive destination for everyone.
At the heart of GötÄlva is a modern wakeboard cable park: a fun, accessible water‑sport facility that invites people of all ages and backgrounds to try something new. Around it, the project aims to create a vibrant mix of recreation, culture, learning, and community — a place where sports, events, youth activities, and everyday life can meet.
GötÄlva is built on a clear idea: public waterfronts should be alive, welcoming, and full of possibilities. By activating the water, opening the pier, and creating new spaces for movement and social life, the project contributes to a more dynamic and connected Gothenburg.
This is just the beginning, and we look forward to sharing the journey with you.
The Vision
GötÄlva is conceived as more than a cable wake park. The vision for Lundbyvassen includes open air cinema, concerts on the pier, and space for the free theater scene, using the site's existing structures, including the historic cranes, as natural stage elements. These are early-stage ideas being actively explored with cultural partners in Gothenburg.
GötÄlva is developed in partnership with specialists in their fields. Wakeparx brings technical expertise in cable wake park design and operations, with installations across the world. Waterstudio.NL, led by Koen Olthuis, is one of the world's leading practices in waterfront architecture and floating urban design, and serves as architectural partner for the site. Floatel GmbH, Berlin, is a European leader in repurposing historical structures as unique hotel concepts, from lighthouses to industrial landmarks, including the Hafenkran Hamburg.
Project Partners
Historic cranes stand at the edge of the site — silent landmarks of Gothenburg’s industrial past. They are not just remnants to work around. GötÄlva plans to restore and develop them as active elements of the destination — giving them a new purpose while honouring what makes Lundbyvassen irreplaceable.
